'DAY OF HEALING' MUCH MORE THAN JUST A CONCERT

Chicago, IL -- On Sunday, August 25, 1996, entertainment
and politics will once again come together in a 'Day of Healing', a series
of events devoted to remembering the past and building hope for the
future. The day will run as follows:

12:00  Arie Crown Theater:  Featured performances from an all-star lineup including Bonnie Raitt, Crosby Stills & Nash, Jackson Browne, Chuck D., and an opening segment from HAIR done by the current cast. CSN were banned from performing "Won't You Please Come to Chicago" in Chicago during the 1968 Democratic National Convention -- 28 years later, they will finally sing it here. The event will also feature presentations from Senator Tom Hayden (D-Cal) and members of the Chicago Eight, as well as former gang leader Luis Rodriguez, who will be presenting a 'plan for peace' co-written with 300 other inner-city youth. Tickets are $15; call 312-559-1212.

Cancelled  5:30  St. Alphonsus Church:  A Town Meeting featuring Aaron Freeman as emcee. Other panelists will include Sen. Hayden, Michael Butler, former HAIR cast member Robert Rothman, Charles Kaiser (author of 1968 in America   and several members of the '96 cast. The objective: to ponder the unresolved issues of 1968, most notably First Amendment Rights and the right to protest peacefully, as well as to pose the difficult question to those who protested in 1968: where did you go? Admission is free.

7:00  New Athenaeum Theater:   Michael Butler presents the Pacific Musical Theater's production of HAIR, the landmark 1968 musical which changed forever the way America looked at its youth, war, politics and Broadway. The production runs through September 1; tickets cost $10.00-$37.50; call 312.902.1500.
