BONNIE RAITT, CROSBY, STILLS AND NASH, AND OTHERS TO PARTICIPATE IN A "DAY OF HEALING"

1968--The year HAIR, the American tribal love-rock musical, brought the 1960s vision of peace, freedom, and love to the American stage, while in Chicago streets, the vision was met with violence as war protesters and Chicago police clashed at the Democratic National Convention.

1996--Chicago again hosts the Democratic National Convention and Michael Butler revives HAIR as a reminder that the idealism of the 1960s still thrives today and in hope that the vision of the 60s will be the reality of the new millennium. To begin, as HAIR tribes have implored audiences for years, to "Let the Sun Shine In," a "Day of Healing" will be held in commemoration of the visionary ideals of the 1968 protests.

Chicago, IL--On Sunday, August 25, 1996, a "Day of Healing" will allow us to remember where we were, confront where we are, and inspire the future. Once again, the whole world will be watching Chicago, and this event, inspired by Senator Tom Hayden (Cal-D), serves as a demonstration of the politics of unity, freedom and love.

The day begins at 12:00 pm at the Arie Crown Theater with a concert featuring Crosby, Stills and Nash, Bonnie Raitt and a finale combining the Soul Children Gospel singers with the cast of HAIR.

Cancelled  At 6:00 pm, a "Town Meeting" will be held at the New Athenaeum Theatre. Hosted by Chicago's Aaron Freeman, guest speakers will include Senator Tom Hayden, Michael Butler, Charles Kaiser (the author of 1968), past HAIR cast members such as Joe Mantagna and Ben Vereen are being contacted to join the Be-in. The purpose of the Town Meeting is to exercise the rights of democracy: people coming together to address the issues that confront them in order to move toward a future solution in unity.

Immediately following the "Town Meeting" will be a special performance of Michael Butler's HAIR to mark the beginning of the healing.
