Just like my last one about attending the HAIR reunion didn't...
Irregardless, Richard, Jim, and whoever the hell else came up with the idea of a reunion
performance of HAIR featuring as many of the first-run Tribers as possible is excellent. But one
thing: where's the venue? If you're going to plan HAIR, you need a historic HAIR venue to give the
show a little panache to run on advertising-wise, lines like "The House Where HAIR Was Launched."
Here are a few "historic" options: anything like the Biltmore, the Aquarius, or -- my personal
choice -- either of the Public Theater or Joe's Pub parts of the NY Shakespeare Festival complex
on Lafayette Street. I choose the very first performance space HAIR appeared in, because, in my
mind, the advertising plays well: HAIR literally returns to its roots for one night only. And
since Joe's Pub is a more cabaret-type setting, it looks like the Public Theater would be one's
best bet, were one to choose it. And to make it even more full-circle, the opening date of the
Off-Broadway run was next month. If it's arranged by then, it could be on the opening night in
1967.
Someone pass this to Jim (he and I are not on the best footing); it could work with the right producer.
