That is so cool!! I just saw the movie Pay It Forwards. The reason I
mention it is because it started as a class project. But imagine if everyone
in the world followed the hypothesis.
When Daisy was in junior high we did a project for her Science class. It
won best presentation at the school science Fair, and then went to the State
level at the Science Fair. Sadly she was unable to go for the interview with
the judges. Her class had to go to Washington DC that week :o(
Total waste of time!
Daisy's hypothesis was that she could recreate Mother Earth, by composting.
She interviewed Michael! and Ed Begley,Jr. and other people whom we know that
compost.. She built a compost bin and took pics of other types. Then we took
a very large glass vase and put in layers, everything one can put onto a
compost heap.. you'd be surprised.. We started with cut grass, then leaves, then
kitchen scraps (vegetables)then lint from the clothes dryer, newspapers,
crushed clam shells, rose petals, hair, more leaves, we emptyed the vacuum cleaner
bag, took out the hairpins and buttons and put the rest ion the vase in a
layer. egg shells, salmon skins, ashes from the fireplace, peanut shells, etc.
It was really cool.. she also made 4 identical flats (except) one had her
composted soil in all the flowerpots, and the other had some earth we dug up
out behind The Rose Cottage. It was virgin soil nothing had been growing in
it.. We planted identical seeds and identical cuttings. Each pot and flat was
labeled with very professional looking " labels" made in that machine for
sealing things in plastic.. Eventually as things began to sprout and grow it
was clear that Daisy had outdone Mother Earth. Everything grown in the
composted soil grew faster and better. except for the Nasturtiums.!LOL!
Aren't our kids amazing?
