Tibetan National Uprising Day Commemoration in New York City
This Friday, March 10th, 2006

Join hundreds of Tibetans and their supporters will demonstrate in commemoration of the 47th anniversary of the 1959 uprising against the Chinese occupation of Tibet. March 10th, 1959 marked the culmination of the Tibetans opposition to the Chinese invasion and occupation of their country. One week later, the demonstrations in Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet, ended with the Dalai Lama fleeing to India. Chinese forces went on to massacre tens of thousands of unarmed Tibetan men, women and children. To honor the memory of those who were killed in the uprising, as well as the over one million Tibetans who have since died as a direct result of the Chinese occupation, Tibetans and their supporters commemorate March 10 with demonstrations and vigils around the world. 


WHAT: Mass rally and a march from Union Square to United Nations.

WHEN/ WHERE: 10am 12:30pm Union Square (14th Street)
12:30pm 1pm March to the United Nations
1pm 3:30pm United Nations, Dag Hammerskjld Plaza (47th St. & 1st Ave.)
