Londoners Calm Amid the Chaos
City Saw Terrorist Attacks as Inevitable
By Sam Coates

Amid the chaos and confusion of today's attacks in the British capital,
many Londoners reacted with remarkable calm and self-assurance, in part
because of the experience of Irish Republican Army attacks stretching
back more than three decades.
Since 1972, when IRA bombings started on the British mainland, there
have been many attacks aimed at high-profile targets, including Downing
Street (1992), the London Stock Exchange (1990) and Canary Wharf (1997),
one of London's tallest buildings housing mainly financial and media
companies.
