richard:
I did not mean to imply that madbaker is anything other than "a total rock god" - an icon, even. Indeed he is. I remember my older brother coming home from college for Christmas 1967 with a copy of "Disraeli Gears." Even at 9, I was already a rock freak (I had been a Beatle fan since age 7), and I remember just being floored by the album. It was so incredibly creative, and totally compelling. When Wheels of Fire came out the next year, Cream cemented itself as among the most important, creative, progressive bands out there.
Madbaker was also a personal influence. When I took up drums at age 12, Ringo, Bonham and madbaker were my first influences. Indeed, when I joined my first band in high school at age 15, everyone in the band said that my style reminded them of Ginger Baker. And believe me, that was as powerful a compliment as anyone could offer.
Peace.

Since nothing is "official" until The New York Times says it is (LOL), here it is:
"Cream, which disbanded in 1968, has announced a series of reunion shows. Eric Clapton on guitar, Jack Bruce on bass and Ginger Baker on drums will return on May 2, 3, 5 and 6 to the Royal Albert Hall in London, where they played their last full-length concerts together. >From 1966 to 1968, Cream merged blues-rock and psychedelia, reaching back to Robert Johnson and taking off in long, frenetic jams. The group reunited in 1993 for a brief set when it was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame."
Madbaker: may you and your fellow Creamsmen kick some serious rump!
Peace.
