AL-QAEDA TOP LIEUTENANT WARNS OF MORE DESTRUCTION IN LONDON
WebPosted Thu Aug 4 10:57:37 2005
---Al-Qaeda's deputy leader Ayman al-Zawahri blamed Tony Blair for the
recent bombings in London on a videotape aired Thursday, warning that the
British prime minister would be responsible for more destruction.
The tape was broadcast on the Arab-language network al-Jazeera, airing a
month after the deadly bombings of London's transit system that killed
56 people.
"Blair has brought to you destruction in central London, and he will
bring more of that, God willing," al-Zawahri said in the tape.
He also warned the United States that al-Qaeda will continue to launch
deadly attacks until U.S. troops leave all Muslim countries.
"What you have seen in New York, Washington and Afghanistan, are only the
initial losses," he said, referring to the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the
United States.
He said no one will be safe "until you withdraw from our land, stop
stealing our oil and wealth and stop supporting the corrupt rulers."
He pointed out that Osama bin Laden had offered a truce last year for the
withdrawal of troops from Muslim lands.
"Instead (of accepting the truce), you spilled blood like rivers in our
countries and we exploded the volcanoes of wrath in your countries."
The videotape showed al-Zawahri in front of a cloth, wearing a white robe
and a black turban, sitting with a weapon behind his shoulder.
