Yunessi rules out extremism

Tehran, Oct 5 - Information (intelligence) Minister Ali Younessi here
Tuesday said that extremism is no more exercised at the national level.

  Speaking on the sidelines of a conference called `ministry of
information, people, sustainable security', he added that national
security is interdependent upon unity and added that lack of national
unity is the greatest danger threatening any country.

  Concerning the plans of the ministry of information for Iranian
expatriates residing overseas, he said that the gap between expatriates
and those living in Iran is created by lack of confidence and fear, for
which sabotage groups are responsible.

  According to him, some countries which benefit from Iranians capitals
attempt to create such a gap.

  Reiterating the need to establish communication between the Iranian
expatriates residing overseas and the compatriots living in Iran, he
stated, "Iranians residing overseas for any reason should remember that
no country and no nation are so good as Iran and Iranians respectively,
given that irrespective of their country of residence, they will be
considered as aliens and second-degree citizens."

  Younessi said that after the September 11 terroristic attack, the
Iranian expatriates residing overseas have continuously been
disrespected.

  The minister urged Iranian expatriates to keep in touch with their
relatives in their homeland, in case they cannot visit their country
for any reason.

  "The ministry of information has managed to harness the enemies
attempts towards disrupting the national security, predict the upcoming
crises and stop them," he added. He noted that when faced with the
world major intelligence services, the ministry of information can
either act either similarly or in a more optimum way.

  "Its significant achievement in regional crises proves its priority to
the international intelligence services.

  However, such achievement are never reported and the related news are
not revealed to the public." Turning to the exhibition held on the
achievements of the information ministry as a small step to introduce
its performance to the people, he hoped to publish some of the related
documents in future to inform the public on the services rendered by
the unknown soldiers.

  The minister also called on people to cooperate with the ministry of
information and said, "I started working in this ministry by giving
special attention to `people's participation in current affairs'.

  "Fortunately, we have managed to attract the public confidence in the
ministry of information as well as their cooperation.

  "Sustainable security has become the common motto promoted by the
ministry of information," he concluded.
